I used to dread walking our dog Max during the darker half of the year.

Don't get me wrong, I actually love walking and playing with our dog.

It's just that walking in the dark always went the same way: Cutting our walks short, headlamps dying mid-walk, or arguing with my husband over whose turn it was.

I figured that was just a part of being a dog owner.

Until a night in January left me bathing in dog poop...

1. My husband and I used to fight over who would go out

I was bathing in dog poop...  Once again, my husband had won.

It all started when I woke up on a dark, rainy morning in November.

Our Golden Retriever, Max, was whining at the door.

"Your turn," my husband would mumble from under the warm covers.

"I did it yesterday," I'd argue back, dreading the cold and dark walk...

But as dog owners, we have to go out in all weathers.

After walking for about twenty minutes, my fingers felt like blocks of ice. I was trying to balance Max’s leash in one hand and my flashlight in the other.

Even my wrist started hurting as I had to point the narrow flashlight to see wherever Max was sniffing.

But then I felt something, and it wasn't until I pointed the flashlight on the ground that I realized what it was...

2: My flashlight lit so narrowly that it ruined our dogs' sleep

As we got closer to home, I was just done finishing the cleanup after Max.

I thought I had picked up everything, but then, my foot suddenly slipped...

My narrow flashlight had made me miss a spot entirely.

There I was, lying in a puddle of... You know what...

But that wasn't even my biggest problem; the bigger problem was Max...

I knew he wanted to walk in nature, but it was just too dark. So, more often than I care to admit, I would cut our walks short and head home.

It really started to show in Max's mood. I could see him lose his energy, but the strange thing was, he was still restless during the night.

Seeing him up during the nights meant he wasn't getting enough exercise during the day.

This awful routine of morning arguments and a sad, restless dog had to end.

It was time for something to change.

3.  I found the highest-rated headlamp by dog lovers

When I got home from work that day, it was time for yet another dark walk.

This time, I tried strapping on my old headlamp instead of my weak flashlight.

But after just a few minutes, everything turned completely black...

"Great," I thought, "I just put new batteries in this thing last week."

Not to mention, my headlamp felt so heavy, like someone had attached a brick to my head.

Once again, I had to cut the walk short. And even worse, I knew it would be another restless night because Max hadn't walked properly.

Later that night, while Max was still up, I began searching for a better lighting alternative.

After a while, I found a Headlamp called "Fjällbris" in a dog owners' forum.

At first, I was skeptical. It looked similar to others I'd found on Amazon. But when I saw it was the highest-rated headlamp by dog owners, I decided to take my chances.

However, when it arrived, I was very disappointed.

4: It was so small I felt disappointed

It looked like the smallest headlamp I'd ever seen.

"How's this going to light up more than my old one?" - I thought...

And not only was it small, it didn't even have any batteries?? It was rechargeable... and from my experience, rechargeable lights die after just a few hours of usage.

I knew I had made a mistake buying it, but it was still worth testing.

As I tested it on the first walk, I noticed something strange. It barely felt like I was wearing anything. And after walking for over an hour, I hadn't even thought about it.

But the most impressive thing was the light. It had a 230° wide beam that flooded the whole path in front of us with light.

And just by waving, I could turn it on while keeping my dirty gloves completely away from the headlamp. Great after I had picked up after Max.

Even with those features in mind, I was still worried about the rechargeable battery.

So, how did it hold up after testing it for a few days?

4: It was so small I felt disappointed

5: I could adjust it to fit all situations

To really test it, I brought it out during a pouring rainstorm.

I've read that most rechargeable batteries can die in the rain. And as a dog owner, we have to be out in all weathers.

To my surprise, it kept working. And unlike other rechargeable variants, the strongest light mode of 1000 lumens lasted for over 8 hours. But that wasn't even the most impressive part.

The other 9 light modes lasted DAYS without needing to charge it.

I use the red light during foggy mornings, and the strongest 1000 lumen light during forest walks.

I also felt much safer knowing it had a reflective band on the back. It made us visible to cars from a distance, even in the rain.

So knowing this, was it worth it? And most importantly, did it solve our problems with Max?

5: I could adjust it to fit all situations

FINAL VERDICT: We tested it for 30 days for free

After just a week, Max was a different dog. He was more energized and playful, and at night, he was finally sleeping soundly.

Our short, frustrating walks were gone, replaced by peaceful, long strolls in the forest, just like the ones we used to have in the summer.

My husband and I used to fight over who would go out for those cold, dark walks. But now? We fight over who gets to go out.

My only regret was not buying a second one right away. Because then we could have gotten one for free.

My husband was skeptical, but when I told him about the 30-day risk-free trial, he agreed to try it. It was the best way to see that this headlamp is unlike any other without taking any risks.

Because trust me, my worst

nightmare would be to keep on slipping in the dark, or punishing Max by cutting our walks short every day.

You can spend hundreds on big, bulky headlamps, but in my opinion, this is the better everyday option.

Questions from the readers

Is it comfortable for long walks?

Absolutely. I use it every single day, and it always feels comfortable. It's so lightweight and balanced that I honestly forget I'm wearing it. My old headlamp used to bounce around and feel heavy, but this one stays put.

What if it stops working or breaks?

Fjällbris has a 365-day warranty, so if anything goes wrong in the first year, they’ll replace it, no questions asked. That gave me peace of mind when I ordered it. To be honest, this thing feels really durable. My dog has even tugged at it a few times, and it's held up perfectly.

Does it have different light modes?

Yes, it has a bunch of them. You can use the brightest setting for our long walks, a lower setting for quick trips outside, or even a red light mode. My favorite feature is the motion sensor. I can just wave my hand to turn it on or off. That's a lifesaver when a car is coming and I don't want to blind the driver.

Is it waterproof?

Yes, it's IPX5 rated waterproof. I've worn mine in heavy rain on countless walks, and it keeps working perfectly. One of my dog-walker friends even dropped hers in a muddy puddle, and it still works like new.

How long does the battery actually last? And how long does it take to charge?

I regularly get 8+ hours of continuous use on the strongest mode, which is more than enough for our long forest walks. For weaker light modes, it can last up to 35 hours. And charging is fast—usually full in about 2 hours with USB-C.

Does it really eliminate neck strain and fumbling with a leash?

Absolutely. The lightweight design means I can wear it for hours without any discomfort. And with the wide 230-degree beam, I don't have to constantly turn my head to see where Max is going. My hands are completely free for the leash and treats.

How is this different from those cheap Facebook/Amazon headlamps?

It's a night-and-day difference. Those typically have a narrow, weak beam and a heavy design. This has 1000 lumens of natural light with 230° coverage—it’s like having a floodlight on your head.
